Phanom Rung near Buriram

Attractions, Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat)

Phanom Rung is the nicest and most impressive of all Khmer monuments in Thailand. It was constructed form the 10th to the 13th century on the top of an extinct volcano and therefore offers a good view of the countryside as well.

Prasat Hin Khao Phanom Rung is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva, and symbolises Mount Kailasa, the heavenly abode of Shiva.

Phanom Rung, about 120 kilometers from Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) is arguable the nicest and most impressive of all Khmer monuments in Thailand, possibly even more dramatic than Phimai because of the long steps leading up to it.
