Isaan food is a blend of spicy chilies and sour tamarind, 'makok' or red ant eggs. A multitude of other ingredients can be found, most of them either very spicy, sour or bitter.

Khorat's small night market, along the Chomsurang Hotel end of Thanon Mahathai, is the best place for local Isaan food (Northeastern Thai food).
