If you adore pristine nature then the Khao Yai National Park is a place you would want to visit. With the closest town being Korat you can easily reach it and explore one of Thailand's most beautiful natural wild habitats. The Khao Yai National Park is home to Asian elephants, tigers, gibbons, Indian sambar deer, Asiatic black bears, gaur, Indian muntjac, dholes, and wild pigs to name just a few species. It is also home to 320 types of wild bird. This really is a nature lovers paradise.

The waterfalls of Heo Narok, and Heo Suwat were made famous by the shooting of the movie The Beach starring Leonardo Di Caprio and offer a majestic sight as water drops down an impressive 80 meters.

Khao Yai National Park is part of the impressive Sankambeng Mountain Range just off the Khorat plateau and is covered by a stunning evergreen forest. It covers approximately 2168 square kilometers and is Thailand's second largest National Park.

Khao Yai National Park was formed on September 18, 1962,and named a Royal Park. This killed 2 birds with one stone as it not only preserved some of Thailand's most important natural country as also creating a structure of land use around the Khao Yai mountain. During the troubles many bandits and political criminals used Khoa Yai to hide up from the government and the land use laws were useful in bringing these rebels to justice.
