Prasat Nang Ram, around 80 kilomneters from Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat), was built in Khmer style during the 12th century to be a nursing place and hospital (Arokhayasan) during the reign of Jayavarman VII, the last great king of the ancient Khmer (1121-1220 AD). Prasat Nang Ram was under the auspices of the Buddha Bhai-Shajyaguru Vaiduryaprabha, who gives good health to human beings.
Prasat Nang Ram: what can be seen
The temple is eroded badly, with only the base and entrances remaining, but it consisted still visibly of the main stupa and vihara surrounded by laterite walls. It is surrounded by a wall with two \"Gopura\" (entrances) on the east and west. On the central entrance, the carvings of lintel and pilasters are remaining. A lintel is carved with a Hindu god standing on a \"kala\" image. Outside the wall, there is a pond lined with stepped laterite.
In a distance of 80 meters from the temple, surrounded by laterite walls and a U-shaped pond, there are a further three stupas assumed to be the residence of medical men.
